B-W Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble in Concert

The Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music presents its Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble in concert, conducted by Dwight Oltman, Philip de Oliveira and Nick Gonda, on Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m. at the Kulas Musical Arts Building, 96 Front St., Berea. This concert is free and open to the public.

Selections include the "Capriccio Espagnol" by Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky's classic "1812 Overture," along with other light classical selections.

Oltman, professor of conducting at B-W, directs both the Symphony Orchestra and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble as well as B-W's annual Bach Festival. He is also the music director and principal conductor of Ballet San Jose in California. Frequently, he has conducted Baldwin-Wallace ensembles at state, regional, and national conferences. His career has been built on training received from Pierre Monteux and Max Rudolf in conducting, and Nadia Boulanger in composition. Among his many honors is a listing in Who's Who in America and a proclamation from Mayor Michael White for "Dwight Oltman Day in Cleveland" as a "tribute of praise and gratitude for his twenty years of distinguished and dedicated service as Music Director of the Ohio Chamber Orchestra."

DeOliveira and Gonda are student conductors currently studying conducting with Professor Oltman at Baldwin-Wallace.
