Fire Tears Through Strongsville Garage, Home

STRONGSVILLE, OH — A fire at a Strongsville home caused an estimated $100,000 of damage on Sunday evening. No one was hurt during the blaze.

The fire happened on Briar Bush Lane at 7 p.m. Neighbors saw flames spitting from an attached garage and quickly told the residents what was happening. The residents were not aware there was a fire, but were able to get to safety.

The first Strongsville firefighters arrived at the house about five minutes after the fire was reported, according to a statement from Fire Chief Jack Draves. An engine-mounted deck gun was used to knock down the bulk of the fire. Handlines were then used to extinguish the remaining fire in the garage. By 7:45 p.m., the fire was under control.

The garage roof and walls were rendered structurally unstable by the fire, according to the city's fire department. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

In total, 13 firefighters from Strongsville responded to the fire. They used two fire engines, a ladder tower and a command vehicle to take control of the blaze. An ambulance also responded to the scene.

Assistance from firefighters in Berea, Middleburg Heights and Olmsted Falls was provided. No firefighters were hurt during the fire.
