Spirit of Strongsville Parade Participants Won't Be Throwing Candy
The mayor and police chief want to keep children from running out in the path of parade vehicles.

Police will be cracking down on participants throwing candy to spectators at tonight’s Spirit of Strongsville parade.
Candy can still be distributed this year, but with a focus on
“Walk on the side of your floats and hand candy to the children, but do not throw it,” said Mayor Thomas Perciak. “We are asking this for the protection of our children.”

Police Chief Charles Goss said, “This year we are making a special effort to get everyone to cooperate with distributing candy from the curb instead. In past years when folks throw candy from vehicles or floats, it tempts youngsters to run out into the road creating a real safety hazard.”
Goss also urged those attending the parade with children to keep them behind the barricades and police lines and don’t allow them to go out into the road.

“We want to have a successful and fun event, but we want to make sure it is done safely,” Goss added.
The begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight in front of the on Pearl Road and Progress Drive and will end at the City Commons on the corner of Pearl and Royalton roads.
