Free Produce Available To Strongsville Families

The Strongsville Schools will be giving away boxes of fresh vegetables and fruit.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — Fresh produce will be available for free to families in Strongsville through a new government program.

The United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) is working with farmers to provide access to fresh produce during the COVID-19 pandemic. Farmers will now sell crops to the USDA who will have the produce packaged and shipped to nonprofit groups across the U.S.

Families in Strongsville can pick-up 22 pound boxes of fresh produce through the school district. Other groups, like food banks and churches, may hold their own produce give away.

"Strongsville City Schools have been given the opportunity to take advantage of this awesome opportunity, which begins immediately and can last throughout December," the district said in an email.

The first produce giveaway will be held on Wednesday. Families can continue to pick up producce every Wednesday in June and July. The program is open to all families in Strongsville.

Families that are not enrolled in the district's summer meal program can sign-up online to join the produce giveaway.

"Distribution will be every Wednesday at Strongsville Middle School from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in June and July. Since our order is due one week in advance of the distribution, you will receive a confirmation email as to when you can begin receiving your produce box," the district said.
