I-71 Car Chase Suspect Dead

A high-speed car chase along I-71 ended in Medina County with a Strongsville officer discharging his weapon and the suspect dead.

MEDINA COUNTY, OH - A driver that allegedly led police on a high-speed car chase through Strongsville was killed Tuesday morning, police say.

The chase occurred after an attempted traffic stop on I-71 South, Strongsville Police say. Officers spotted the vehicle and tried to stop the car for a violation at about 2:26 a.m. The driver did not stop and instead sped up and continued to drive along the highway.

Pursuit of the vehicle ended near State Route 3. A Strongsville police officer discharged his weapon and the suspect was later pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to the scene and will lead the investigation into the incident. Parts of I-71 were closed briefly following the incident.
