Labor Day: Impaired Drivers Targeted By Ohio Troopers

BROOK PARK, OH — Last year, 24 people were killed in fatal car accidents during the Labor Day weekend. This year, the Ohio State Highway Patrols says it will be cracking down on impaired drivers, to make the roadways safer for motorists.

“Removing impaired drivers from our roadways is always a primary focus,” said Colonel Paul A. Pride, Patrol superintendent. “We take impaired driving seriously and remain dedicated to protecting and serving the motorists on Ohio’s roadways."

Besides the 24 killed during last year's Labor Day holiday weekend, there were also 851 impaired drivers arrested, the Patrol said. Current estimates project more Ohioans hitting the road this weekend than last year.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking residents to plan their trips out, as much as possible, to build-in as much time for travel as they can, and to always use buckle up. Drivers that spot an impaired driver can dial 911 or 677 to reach the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
