Mad Cactus Raided for Illegal Gambling
State agents confiscate electronic gaming devices, cash

An anonymous complaint concerning illegal gambling operations led undercover agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit to execute a search warrant March 31 at the Mad Cactus, 9175 Pearl Rd.
During the search, agents seized $2,011 in cash, three electronic gambling devices and gambling-related records and paperwork.
Four administrative citations were filed for acquiring, possessing, controlling or operating a gambling device; electronic video gambling device game; operating a game of chance for profit or scheme of chance; and operating a gambling house.

“The payment of cash prizes in liquor establishments will not be tolerated,” Cleveland Agent-in-Charge John Campbell said in a news release. “We have been vigilant and will continue to combat illegal gambling in permit establishments.”
Establishments that serve liquor are prohibited by Ohio law from allowing illegal gambling and giving away cash and other monetary items as prizes.

Criminal charges are pending. Administrative charges also are filed against the liquor permit and will be forwarded to the Liquor Control Commission. Possible administrative penalties could include fines, suspension or revocation of the liquor permit.
