Make Sure Your Car Is Locked This Spring, Strongsville PD Says

STRONGSVILLE, OH — Spring weather means warmer weather, baseball returning, and the return of the sun to Northeast Ohio. It also means an uptick in crimes of opportunity.

As the weather gets nicer, police departments around the nation usually see an increase in thefts from unlocked cars and homes. Prowlers will check cars parked outside overnight, houses that appear to be vacant and garages that are left open.

Strongsville Police see the sunlight breaking through the winter clouds and are asking residents to be cognizant of their own security. The department noted that with the onset of warmer weather there tends to be an uptick in thefts from unlocked car in Strongsville.

On social media this month, the police department asked residents to take an extra second to ensure their vehicles and homes are locked and their garages are closed. Residents should also make sure there are no valuables left in plain sight in their cars, police said.

"Don't become an easy victim," the department said on Facebook.
