Crews were putting the finishing touches on a new Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream in the food court at this morning for a grand opening today.
The 2,800-square-foot store is the first mall location for the Cleveland-based Mitchell's, which operates ice cream parlors in Rocky River, Westlake, Solon and Beachwood.
Co-owner Peter Mitchell, who owns the chain with his brother, Mike, told Stongsville Patch in September they had been looking for a Strongsville location for about two years before deciding on the mall.

"SouthPark is such a vibrant mall," he said at the time.
The Strongsville store will be larger than any of the existing Mitchell's parlors and will include seating for patrons.

Locating in Westfield SouthPark "doesn't rule out, at some point, a location outside the mall" as well, Mitchell said, pointing to the success of Panera, which runs busy restaurants both in the mall and across the street on Royalton Road.
The company's website says the brothers have developed a unique, three-step freezing process that results in extra-creamy ice cream filled with "generous chunks of chocolate chips, whole nuts, cookies, and other delicious baked treats."
The menu includes cones, floats, sundaes, shakes, malts, fresh fruit smoothies, homemade ice cream cakes and pies, and signature treats like the Cleveland Brownie Sundae.
