National Award Given To Cleveland Metroparks

"We take great pride in providing high quality parks and recreational opportunities to Northeast Ohio..." said a park system leader.

The Cleveland Metroparks have been awarded special designation and re-accreditation for their operation, management and service to the community. The re-accreditation comes from The Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

“We take great pride in providing high quality parks and recreational opportunities to Northeast Ohio and this achievement sets us among the very best park and recreation agencies in the country,” said Brian Zimmerman, Cleveland Metroparks CEO.

CAPRA found that the park system met or exceeded all 151 of its standards. The Cleveland Metroparks were specifically recognized for their strong professional culture, strong financial oversight and interconnectedness with nature and surrounding communities. Only 166 park and recreation agencies in the U.S. are accredited.

In addition to taking home this exclusive accreditation, the Cleveland Metroparks are also celebrating the appointment of park system Executive Director, Chris Kuhar, who was elected to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Board of Directors Chair Elect.

“I want to congratulate Dr. Kuhar for his selection as Chair Elect to the AZA Board of Directors where he will be a driving force for conservation initiatives not only at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo but at AZA institutions around the world,” said Zimmerman.
