No S: What Do New Signs Mean?
Unfamiliar symbol pops up on some Strongville streets

New signs that have popped up along some of Strongsville's roads have people wondering: What "S" isn't allowed?
The sign, an "S" with a slash through it, means "no salt," according to Elaine Zazueta, secretary for the city's Service Department.
They've been erected on about 30 streets that were rebuilt with concrete this summer because road salt would damage the new pavement.

"The concrete has to cure, and it hasn't had enough time yet," Zazueta said.Â

This winter, the concrete streets will be plowed, but they won't be salted. The signs were put up to alert snow plow drivers.
The city will be able to resume salting those streets next winter, Zazueta said.
