Police Blotter: It's OK, Dog has Umbrella; Singing Kids Wake Neighbor; Prescription Fraud

A passerby reported a dog left in a car in Pearl Road parking lot for a half hour July 14.

Police, who have had the animal warden remove several dogs from hot cars this summer, checked on this pup and found the owner had left three windows down a few inches for air.

In addition, there was an open umbrella in the back seat so the little dog was able to lounge in the shade.

The dog was not in any distress, a report said.

Another Dog Tale

An officer chased a dog running loose on Whitney Road about 3 a.m. July 14 and was finally able to collar the pup, check his tags and take him home.

The dog's family didn't answer the door, so the officer found a runner in the back yard and chained him up.

He asked an officer on day shift to check back to make sure someone was home and had found the dog. A report said there was a car in the driveway and the dog was no longer outside.

Long-Distance Story

A local woman apparently went out of state to get a doctor to call prescription pain medications in to a Strongsville pharmacy.

A doctor's office in Erie, PA called police here July 13 to report that a woman had called their answering service the previous night saying she was a patient, but was in Strongsville for a funeral.

She said she had broken her ankle, and the Percocets the hospital had given her were making her sick. The doctor agreed to call in other pain meds to in Strongsville.

An investigation is continuing.

Singing Kids

A Park Lane Drive resident complained about kids running through the neighborhood -- some of them singing -- about 12:30 a.m. July 14.

Police located about a dozen kids in one yard and learned they were having a slumber party. They agreed to go inside.
