Police Blotter: Kids Set Off Fireworks Under Car; Man Found Lying on Lawn

A couple on Country Way got into a dispute with some neighbors about 11:30 p.m. June 9 after some kids reportedly set off fireworks under their car.

A report said the couple went out and yelled at some kids for setting off fireworks in the street, and they retaliated by coming back and putting "popper"-type firecrackers under their vehicle.

No damage was done.

But the couple accused a neighbor of instigating the incident, calling the man and his guests "white trash."

The neighbor denied talking to any juveniles and said his own kids were not involved.

Man in the Grass

A Beech Creek Trail woman found a young man lying in the grass just before 3 a.m. June 10.

She first said she was afraid to go see if he was breathing, then later said he was, in fact, breathing, but was unconscious.

Police woke the man, cited him for disorderly conduct and took him home to Priem Road.

ATV Riders Cited

Police cited at least four people caught riding ATVs behind Scarlet Oak Trail about 12:30 a.m. June 10.

Officers warned that if it happened again their vehicles would be towed.

Mailbox Fire

Neighbors noticed a mailbox on fire on Walkingstick Way about 1 a.m. June 10.

They threw water on the blaze and called for help.

Firefighters found no accelerant was used. Dispatchers called the homeowners, but did not get an answer.

No Returns

A Cleveland man and woman were both arrested for trying to make fraudulent returns at June 8.

Employees said they wandered arond the store for two hours before trying to make a fraudulent return, then went outside and sat in their van.

Later that day, they returned and again tried to make a return. Both were taken into custody. The man was already wanted by Strongsville police on an outstanding warrant.

No Flag, Either

Police found 10 carloads of kids at the wolmanized castle playing capture the flag about 10:45 p.m. June 8.

They were told to leave because the park was closed.

Dog Days

A concerned passerby told police about a dog left in a vehicle outside June 9 with the windows cracked only a little.

The owner told officers she was only in the store 10 minutes, but police warned her about leaving a dog in the car in the heat.
