Police Blotter: Man Threatens to 'Go Out with a Bang' and Take Strongsville Woman with Him

A Berea man caused some tense hours here May 25 when he threatened to kill a Hunting Meadows woman and then himself.

The woman called police about 1 a.m. and said she believed the man, who is the father of her daughter, was on his way to her house. She said he had just called and said he had a gun and was planning to kill himself.

Berea police spoke with the man by phone about 2 a.m. The man, who was intoxicated, confirmed that he was on I-71 and was on his way to kill the Strongsville woman.

Berea officers later determined he was not actually on his way to Strongsville.

But he called the woman back at 8 a.m. and said he was "going to go out with a bang" and was on his way to shoot the woman and himself.

Police learned the man may have been visiting a nephew at Hillcrest Hospital and alerted hospital security and Mayfield Heights police, but later found he had not been visiting his nephew.

He remains at large. Detective Lt. John Janowski said there are multiple warrants for his arrest from several cities for this incident and previous ones.

Janowski said Tuesday the man has not yet been located.

Damaged Property

A Willow Circle resident reported May 25 that over the previous few days, six spotlights and eight solar lights were removed and thrown in the lake.

Child Endangering

Police found an infant and a toddler sleeping in a car in the parking lot about 4:50 p.m. May 25.

The mother was located about a half hour later and charged with child endangering.

A Helping Hand

A elderly woman on Overland park Drive asked police for help putting a battery in her lantern during a power outage May 25.

A report said the power came back on, but the officer fixed her lantern for the next time she needs it.

Mischief

Vandals pulled up shrubs from an island on Hawthorne Lane the night of May 25 and threw them into a driveway.

The culprits also put rocks in the resident's driveway and other items in his mailbox.
