Police Blotter: Man with Gun Causes Tense Moments for His Family, Police

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Police had a stand-off with a man at Parkside Towers early Dec. 13 after he threatened suicide and told police he had a gun about 1:40 a.m.

Officers forced their way into his apartment after shots were fired about 3 a.m.

A report said the man threatened suicide in a text to his daughter, who said her father owned at least two guns.

He refused to open the door to has apartment. After the shots were fired, he told officers he had shot himself in the leg.

He was then unable to get to the door to open it. Officers were unable to kick it open because it had a steel frame, the report said, and had to get tools to gain entry.

The man was taken to the hospital and police removed two handguns from the apartment.

Just Busy

A woman got concerned when she tried to call her parents at their Atlantic Road home Dec. 15, but kept getting a busy signal.

Police spoke with her father, who said his wife had been on the phone most of the afternoon, which is why it was busy.

Mysterious 911 Call

Police spent more than 90 minutes tracing the origin of a 911 call Dec. 12 in which someone said something in a low whisper and hung up.

The call was made on a phone belonging to a Pearl Road woman, but she did not answer.

Police then checked several locations on Whitney Road and at the Towers of Fallingwater, interviewing people in the parking lot. 

The woman who owns the phone called police back about 2 p.m. and said her 3-year-old must have dialed 911.
