Police Blotter: More Mailboxes Take a Beating

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Attacks on mailboxes continued this week, with residents on a dozen more streets reporting damage the night of Dec. 20.

The incidents follow in which a number of boxes were damaged, toppled or uprooted.

On Tuesday night, a Windsor Castle resident reported hearing a loud bang between 6 and 7 p.m., then found someone had taken the mailbox off the post and thrown it at the light post.

At 7:45 p.m. a Tomson Drive resident saw kids using a bat to beat her mailbox and one across the street.

About 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, a motorist driving home saw at least seven mailboxes knocked down on Braemar Way, Brigadoon and Fair Isle. A mailbox on Fair Isle Way was missing.

Police also found empty egg cartons on Waterford Parkway and a car parked on Kylemore that was covered in eggs.

On Winchester Court, residents heard something about 12:15 a.m. and later found their mailbox was ripped out and throwed at the lamp post.

Mailboxes on Timberline Drive, Lanier Avenue, Beaver Circle, Hollo Oval, Selby Circle and Harper Road were also damaged. Two mailboxes were found on Selby.

The Enemy is Us?

A Shagbark Trail resident got suspicious when he noticed boot prints inside the back door that don't match anyone's shoes in the family.

Police were able to clear that one up easily -- the department was called there for a burglar alarm. The officer found the back door open and resecured it.

Burglaries on Cherry Tree

Two residents of Cherry Tree Village reported Dec. 19 someone had broken into their apartments and stolen computers. 

In one case, the intruder had cut a screen in the bedroom window.

Burying the What?

A passerby reported a man in his 40s parked near a field at Prospect and Royalton roads about 10:45 a.m. Dec. 19, burying something.

She stopped and asked what he was doing and he said he was burying his cat.

He had an item in a box, a report said.

The woman was concerned it was not a cat in the box. Police checked the area, put could not locate the man.
