Police Blotter: Strange Doings on Westwood; Kids Trick Drivers; Animal Warden Takes Dogs Out of Hot Car

Police were called to Westwood Drive twice during the early morning hours June 13 because residents heard unusual noises.

About 1:30 a.m., a 14-year-old called 911 because he heard footsteps upstairs. The youth said he didn't know his address because he just moved here, and when police called his father, the dad didn't believe it was the police calling and wouldn't give out the address.

Officers eventually located the house and found nothing amiss.

About 6:15 a.m., a man called police to say his wife was home alone and said someone was knocking on the window.

The wife wasn't concerned, but the husband asked police to check the area.

No one suspicious was found.

Mischief on Shurmer

A group of kids found a new way to mess with motorists June 13. 

A driver said the youngsters were standing on both sides of the street about 8 p.m. and when a car would approach, they'd pretend to pull a wire up.

The cars would stop and the kids would laugh at them.

They were gone when police arrived.

Dog Days

The animal warden rescued some dogs left in a vehicle at Dillard's about 12:40 p.m. June 12.

A report said the warden couldn't locate the owner and it was too hot to leave the dogs in the car. He left a note for the owner on how to get the dogs back.

She was later cited for animal cruelty.

Theft from Car

An iPod was stolen from a car on Wakefield Circle the night of June 12.

The car was not locked.

Damaged Property

Someone tipped patio furniture on Kylemore Drive June 12, breaking the umbrella and the glass in the table.

The resident said the same thing happened two doors down.

Purse Stolen from Walmart

A woman's purse was stolen from between 4:30 and 5 p.m. June 11.

The victim told police she had it at the register, and thinks someone took it while she was loading groceries into her car.

Looking for a Lift

A customer at Tommy's Pizza reported a man who approached him about noon on June 11 and asked for a ride to Brunswick.

He said he'd pay for the ride.

Police located the man, who said he was trying to call his sister for a ride to work, but Tommy's had no phone for him to use, so he asked the customer for a ride to Bianca's.

The officer gave him a ride up Stoney Hill to work.
