Police Blotter: Texts Say Man is in Trouble, Please Send Euros

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Someone apparently hijacked the contact list from a Falmouth Drive man's BlackBerry Jan. 6, sending text messages and emails saying he was in trouble in Spain.

The messages said he had been robbed and his luggage stolen and he needed 1,200 euros.

The victim learned of the scam when some of his friends told him about the texts.

Police advised him to install an anti-virus progam and contact AT&T.

Card is Just a Card

A Trotwood Park family reported someone opened a birthday card before they did -- and apparently took out the cash or gift card inside.

A report said the envelope was opened when they took it out of the mailbox Jan. 7.

The person who sends it usually includes a gift.

Car Parts Stolen

Two Whitney Road residents had catalytic converters stolen from their vehicles last week.

One report came in the morning of Jan. 6, the other Jan. 7.

Doggie Tales

A man reported that someone stole his dog from his car outside the , 16761 SouthPark Center, Jan. 6.

Police learned, however, that the dog actually got out of the vehicle while the man was helping his wife get in. Another person found the dog and put it in his car.

Dog and owner were reunited.

Needles Found

A Boston Road resident found a bag contaning several hundred needles in her front yard Jan. 6.

The needles were for insulin injections and were all capped, a report said. It was not known how they got on the lawn.

Strongsville firefighters said they would take them to the hospital for disposal.
