Police Blotter: The Gift of a Dead Raccoon; 2 Reports of Gunshots; Attempted Burglary

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Police were called to , 9080 Pearl Rd., about 4:30 p.m. June 23 after someone drove up in an older white convertible, got out and placed a dead raccoon in front of the store.

A report said the animal was left next to a party bag.

The driver, a man wearing a baseball cap, then left southbound on Pearl.

A witness told store employees what happened. Police bagged the raccoon and disposed of it.

Burglary Foiled

While a Squirrel Hollow family was out the evening of June 22, someone apparently tried to break in by removing the back screen door, a report said.

The burglar did not get into the house.

Shooting Spree?

Residents on Howe Road and the Webster Road-Blazey Trail area reported gunshots June 23.

The Howe resident said bullets actually whizzed by him about 7:40 p.m. He said he was working in his back yard when he heard what sounded like .22-cal. rounds hitting off trees.

Police couldn't find anyone in the area.

About 9:50 p.m., the sounds of an automatic weapon were reported in the Webster-Blazey area.

An officer in the area at the time said he heard fireworks coming from north of the turnpike.

A second caller who lives on Crabapple Courtsaid the shots appeared to be coming from Jasmine Court.

The source of the noises couldn't be pinpointed.

Sign Stolen

Someone stole a stop sign from the corner of Misty Lake Drive and Timberline Drive the night of June 22.

Bolts were found on the ground, so whoever took it had wrenches, a report said.

The service department replaced the sign June 23.

Bad Bill?

A store at questioned whether a $100 bill was real because it didn't have the telltale strips running through it.

Police looked at the bill and said it was fine -- it was made in 1985, before the security strips were put in.
