Police Blotter: Thief is Doing Some Nighttime Landscaping

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Someone is apparently pushing a wheelbarrow into a Big Creek Parkway yard at night and stealing landscaping rocks.

A resident reported the morning of Dec. 20 that it hapened the last two nights.

A report said there was a faint tire track in the front yard, possibly from a wheelbarrow.

The woman said the same thing has happened every so often since August.

The rock collection is valued at $7,000.

Scam Finds a Victim -- Almost

A Settlers Way woman sent $2,800 via Western Union after receiving a phone call from someone saying her nephew was in jail in Lima, Peru and needed help.

After sending the money, she called police, who were able to stop the transaction before the con artists got it.

Lost Child

A "Home Alone" situation was played out at Dec. 22 after a 9-year-old girl showed up in the shoe department.

The girl said she was sleeping in the car, woke up and went into the store to find her parents.

The girl's mom was located before police arrived. She said she had seven kids in her vehicle, including her own children and their friends, and everyone ran inside because it was raining.

The mom didn't realize for several minutes that one of her children was still in the car, asleep. 

As she was going back out, the girl went in a different door. The mom was very upset, the report said.

Drinking or the Opposite

A witness reported a driver drinking a beer on Pearl Road about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 21.

Police located the man, who had a spit cup, not a drink.

Vandalism on Hampton Chase

A resident on Hampton Chase saw a group of teens opening a gas cap on a neighbor's vehicle about 10 p.m. Dec. 20.

The resident yelled and the teens ran, but police located them and rounded them up for curfew violations.

Just Cooling Off

Concerned neighbors called police after seeing a young boy pacing on Park Lane Drive Dec. 20.

Police spoke witht he 8-year-old, who said he'd had a fight with his 5-year-old brother and had sneaked out of the house.

Officers took him home, which was a few doors down.
