Police Investigate Suicide Threat At Strongsville Mall

A caller said there was a man threatening to kill himself inside Southpark Mall on Saturday. The man was not found inside the mall.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — There were reports of a man threatening to kill himself at Southpark Mall on Saturday evening. Police said they were unable to locate the man, but additional officers will be stationed at the shopping complex.

A caller said there was a man threatening suicide at the mall at 6:41 p.m. on Saturday. Police rushed to the mall and searched the complex. However, officers were unable to locate the man.

Strongsville Police Chief Mark Fender said it is not yet clear if the threat was credible. There was no evidence found at the mall of anyone threatening to commit suicide.

Police increased their presence at Southpark on Saturday night during business hours and then overnight for a Girl Scouts event. Investigators will be at the mall on Monday doing follow-up on the call.
