Strongsville Councilman Passes Away, City Seeks Replacement
Michael Daymut passed away at age 72. He served on Strongsville City Council for more than 25 years.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — Strongsville City Councilman Michael Daymut passed away this month, just six days after resigning his position. His longtime seat in Ward 1 is now vacant and city officials are seeking his replacement.
Daymut was 72. He resigned on Nov. 10 and passed away six days later. He reportedly suffered a heart attack in early September and had not attended a City Council meeting since mid-July. He was a Strongsville City Councilman for more than 25 years, according to cleveland.com.
"He was a rare find in the political arena because he told you what he thought," Mayor Tom Perciak told cleveland.com. "He was a man of conviction and he truly loved the city of Strongsville."

The city is now in the unenviable position of having to seek a replacement for Daymut, who had slightly more than a year left on his term in Ward 1. His replacement would serve until December 31, 2019, at least.
Candidates will need to be residents of Ward 1 and cannot hold any other public office with the city.

Interviews with candidates will begin shortly after the resumes are collected. The City Council should appoint a replacement by December 1, 2018.
