Strongsville Elementary Schools Get Grants To Support Learning

The money will be used to support the loving literacy program, to provide flexible seating in classrooms and more.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — The Strongsville Education Foundation recently gave five grants to the Strongsville Schools. The money will be used for a social emotional learning library, flexible seating, the loving literacy program and more.

"We appreciate the support of the foundation through grants, scholarships, and endowed funds, and their continued funding of annual field trips for students in grades K-8 and MakerSpaces in each of our schools," Strongsville Schools officials said in a statement on the district's website.

Five grants were awarded to the district and will be spread across the elementary schools, Kinser, Surrarrer and Whitney. Here's how the grants will be used.

A grant of $380 was awarded to Kinser Elementary for the creation of a social emotional learning library. The money will be used to buy books which teach social and emotional skills to students, and to support small group counseling sessions, individual counseling sessions and books for home use.

A grant of $257 will be used to support a cross-curricular lesson on art from the French and Spanish art movements.

An $800 grant will be used for flexible seating at Surrarrer Elementary. Flexible seating has been shown to improve active learning and allows children to move freely in classrooms.

A $500 grant will provide document cameras at Kinser Elementary. Kindergarten teachers will be given access to document cameras in the classroom to support modeling activities for students in multiple subjects.

Finally, a $1,575 grant will be used to support the loving literacy program at Whitney Elementary. The program gives at-risk students take home books at their reading level to increase confidence in reading and empower a love of literacy.
