The Strongsville Fire Department open house comes after fire prevention week, which ran October 6 through October 12. Draves said residents should ensure they have working smoke detectors and have a plan to get out of their house quickly if a fire should start.

"Fires have changed over the years—they burn faster and hotter. They burn faster and hotter because of the amount of plastics and other chemicals in our homes. You may have as little as two minutes to safely escape from the time the smoke alarms sounds. It’s important everyone know what to do and how to safely escape. Time is of the essence," Draves said.
