Chase, the department's dog, is getting a bullet and stab proof vest courtesy of a non-profit organization.

STRONGSVILLE, OH - The hairiest police office in Strongsville is getting himself some body armor. The Strongsville Police Department announced on Facebook that its K9 officer Chase is getting the added protection courtesy of a nonprofit.
The dog will get a bullet and stab proof protective vest because of a donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by Paulette Penzes and will be embroidered with the phrase, "In loving memory of K9 Achill." Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
The donation to provide the vest is $1,050, Strongsville Police says. Each vest has an actual value of between $1,795 and $2,234 and comes with a five-year warranty. The vests weigh between four and five pounds.
