Strongsville Preps For Extended School Closure Due To Coronavirus

District officials are asking the community to submit any questions they have about what the closure will mean for students and staff.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — The Strongsville Schools will be answering parent questions about the district's extended closure due to the new coronavirus, COVID-19. Gov. Mike DeWine ordered Ohio schools closed through April 6, but has since said schools will likely remain closed through this academic year.

Strongsville Schools Superintendent Cameron Ryba said Monday he wants to answer any concerns expressed by parents. He is asking the community to submit any questions they may have so Ryba and other officials can address those concerns moving forward.

DeWine said on Sunday he is asking state legislators to waive standard testing procedures for Ohio students this year. Ohio legislators will convene on Tuesday to debate the proposal.

Ryba said a remote learning plan will be implemented when DeWine officially extends the closure of Ohio schools. The district has created a website with information on remote learning plans and resources.

As for future events, like prom and graduation, Ryba said he is not yet prepared to cancel those dates.

"We have reached out to our vendors and will be finalizing back-up dates and/or alternative options. We will communicate those to our Seniors and parents once those are finalized. At this point in time, I will not be cancelling any events that occur in May and beyond, including prom or commencement," Ryba said.
