Strongsville Schools Get $20,000 Grant

The money will be used to create a MakerSpace for Strongsville High School students.

STRONGSVILLE, OH - The Strongsville City Schools received a $20,000 donation from the GDP Groups Employees' Foundation. The money will be used to help create "SHS Makes!" a MakerSpace which will include project-based learning labs, innovative spaces, and areas focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

The GDP Group Employees' Foundation awarded more than $500,000 in grants in April, including the grant to Strongsville Schools. The Foundation says they received more than 180 applications for grants before January 13, 2017. Organizations in Northeast and Central Ohio, Atlanta, Dallas, Indianapolis, Louisville, Phoenix, and Seattle all received grants.

“We are excited to be able to continue our goal of bringing MakerSpace learning environments to each of the schools in our District through this generous grant award from The GPD Group Employees’ Foundation. This MakerSpace will provide our high school students with a place to be creative and innovative, while developing problem-solving skills. This further enhances our efforts to ensure that our students are college and career ready,” said Vicki Turner, director of instructional technology for Strongsville City Schools, in a statement.
