The student liaison to the Strongsville School Board is asking officials to relax a rule that prohibits Strongsville High School students from leaving campus for lunch.
Stephanie Gowan, a student at SHS, told board members Thursday night that a number of students already slip off to Wendy's and other nearby fast food restaurants for lunch.
Legitimizing an off-campus lunch would actually make it safer, Gowan said -- kids would have to sign out, so if they didn't return on time, school officials would be aware they were missing.

It would also give students some fresh air and a break during the day so they could come back ready to learn, she said.
Parents would have to give permission for their child to leave school for lunch.

"I think this could be a change Strongsville High School is ready for," she said.
Gowan made the pitch during her monthly report to the community. Board members didn't comment on the idea during the meeting.
