Suspect Tased After Strongsville Car Chase

STRONGSVILLE, OH — A car chase that started in Strongsville ended in Cleveland on Sunday, with officers tasing the suspect. Paul Scott, 22, led police on a city-spanning chase before jumping out of a moving vehicle and running, on-foot, from police. He was subdued, arrested, and is set to appear in court on Thursday.

The pursuit began when a woman called Strongsville Police and said she had seen her stolen car in the city, being driven by a man. She asked police to investigate.

Officers caught up to the vehicle and attempted to identify it as the woman's stolen car. Cleveland Police confirmed the car had been stolen but said the report detailing the theft had not yet been entered.

At that point, Strongsville Police threw on lights and sirens and attempted to stop the car. Instead of complying, Scott sped onto I-71 in an attempt to elude the cops. The pursuit saw Scott get off on Emery Road before turning onto Guardian Boulevard. Scott then jumped out of the moving car and fled on foot. The vehicle continued rolling before colliding with a fire hydrant.

Strongsville cops chased Scott down and struggled to subdue him, eventually tasing him. Police found a stolen gun in Scott's waistband, along with suspected heroin and crack cocaine.

The vehicle was towed to an impound lot and was later determined to not be the woman's stolen car.

Scott appeared in court on Monday, but received a continuance to Thursday so he could appear with legal counsel.

No officers were hurt in the pursuit.
