Teen Suspected of Turfing 60 Yards

19-year-old charged in Huntington Park spree

A 19-year-old has been charged with criminal damaging in connection with a turfing spree in the Huntington Park neighborhood that left more than 60 yards damaged.

"He could be facing more charges," Detective Lt. John Janowski said.

The teen was arrested early Dec. 18 after reporting his car had slid off the road on Greenwich Drive and got stuck.

But police found a car had driven over more than 60 front and back yards in Huntington Park Estates that night, leaving varying degrees of damage to the lawns, Janowski said.

Yards were hit on Versailles, Stamford, Highland Park and an entire side of Kettering.

The teen, who lives on Chevy Chase, has denied involvement in the turfing, saying he only slid onto one yard, Janowski said.

He is charged so far with one count of criminal damaging, a second-degree misdemeanor. However, Janowski said he could eventually face more than 60 counts.
