Two Arrested for Thefts at Rec Center

Two teenagers were arrested Dec. 2 for allegedly stealing items from unlocked lockers at the .

Police were called to the building about 1:30 p.m. after patrons accused the pair of taking their property.

Detective Lt. John Janowski said the teens, one adult and one juvenile, allegedly stole a cell phone, some headphones and a set of car keys from lockers.

Police don't know yet if the boys are the culprits who have been , then using them to steal from their cars.

"We're looking at it," Janowski said.

There have been at least two recent incidents in which people reported their car keys were taken from their coat pockets, then used to take valuables from their vehicles.

"People think they're protecting their valuables by leaving them in the car," Janowski said. "All they're leaving in their locker is their coat, with their keys."

Once the thieves have the keys in hand, it's easy to find the car.

"Most cars have fobs," Janowski said. "You just walk outside, press the button and see which car lights up."
