Two City Council Candidates Spent More than $10,000 on their Races

School board contenders, on the other hand, ran frugal campaigns

The hardest-fought this year was in Ward 3, where both candidates trying to fill the vacancy left by Mark Roth spent more than $10,000 on their campaigns.

Campaign finance reports filed with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections show topped spending at $11,837, while , who won the seat, spent $10,148.

Both also raised a good bit of money. Contributors gave Frawley $10,265 and Carbone $7,715.

The battle was also fierce in Ward 4, where spent $6,826 to hold onto his seat.

Challenger put $7,720 into her efforts to unseat Maloney.

Most of that was Pell's own money. While Maloney raised $6,350 in contributions, Pell received $2,605.

In Ward 2, where unseated long-time Councilman , the campaign was much more low-key.

Haseley spent $3,120 on ads and printing, while Schonhut put out $3,863 in his first campaign.

Schonhut also received $1,498 worth of in-kind contributions, mostly for printing.

SCHOOL BOARD

Things were much quieter in the school board race, where six candidates vied for three open seats, even though they had to campaign citywide.

Incumbent , who won re-election as the third-highest vote-getter, did not run a campaign, Board of Elections records show.

Incumbent , who came in second, spent $242. 

, who received the most votes, spent $1,441 on his campaign, mainly on yard signs.

The three unsuccessful candidates  also spent little. ran a $711 campaign; spent $459 and spent no money.
