Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. A 15-year-old fleeing Toledo Police in a vehicle was arrested after crashing into a home in the 3700 block of Philmar Drive in West Toledo around 4 p.m. Sunday. The suspect attempted to flee on foot after the crash. No injuries were reported. (WTOL)
  2. Austin Sparks, 22, has pleaded no contest to aggravated vehicular homicide in the Lucas County Common Pleas Court Monday. Terrance Robb, 62, of Erie, MI died in the crash at Alexis and Tetherwood on March 10 and Sparks will be sentenced Sept. 26. (WTOL)
  3. On Monday, 47-year-old Keith Thompson was given a life sentence for the November 2021 murder of David Fishbein that occurred in the 700 block of Utah. Thompson beat Fishbein with a cane and was charged with murder after the victim died in a Columbus medical center on December 6. (WTVG)
  4. Toledo Mayor Kapszukiewicz will announce the 'Save Our Community' program for the Lagrange neighborhood in North Toledo on Tuesday at the Zablocki Senior Center. The program will address gun violence and "work with high-risk individuals to build connections to community resources." (WTVG)
  5. The Wood County Health Dept. is investigating after 16 individuals were positive for E. coli in the last week. From 2016-2020 the county saw only a total of 27 cases and those affected currently range in age from 13-60. (WNWO)

  • Gas prices in Toledo are at an average of $3.75 as of Monday, continuing a 9-week decline. (WTOL)
  • The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio are helping teach young women about STEM careers thanks to their Empower Her campaign and activities offered at Defiance's Camp Libbey. (WTOL)
  • The intersection at Orange and Huron Streets will be named in honor of Toledo Fire & Rescue Dept. Assistant Chief Robert Schwanzi. Chief Schwanzi joined the force in 1958 before retiring in 1998 and passed away in 2020. He was president of the Toledo Firefighter's Museum and rang the last alarm at the funerals for Toledo Firefighters. (WTOL) (WTVG)
  • Toledo City Council will vote Tuesday on whether to accept a $197,000 grant for an inclusive playground to be built in Navarre Park on Toledo's East Side. (WTOL)
  • The Toledo Police are investigating a pair of shootings over the weekend. A woman reportedly shot herself in the buttocks during an altercation with neighbors in the 900 block of Berry Avenue around 1 a.m. Saturday. Later, around 3:30 a.m., a 26-year-old victim arrived at Toledo Hospital and told TPD he was shot in a residence in the 1700 block of Christian Ave. (WTOL)
