🌱Perrysburg Chase Ends In Arrest + UT Soccer Players On All-MAC

Hey, Toledo! It's Saturday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in Toledo.


First, today's weather:

Strong winds subsiding. High: 59 Low: 30.


Here are the top stories in Toledo today:

  1. 18-year-old Brandon Vardaman was charged with multiple felonies after stealing a car in Perrysburg and leading police on a car chase through Toledo down Cherry Street and across the Martin Luther King Jr. bridge. Vardaman crashed the car into a pole, where it caught fire, and then led police on a foot chase. Three juvenile suspects were also apprehended and suffered minor injuries in the crash. (WTOL)
  2. 21-year-old Lawrenczel Taylor III has died after getting shot and then crashing his car into a building near Lagrange and E. Central Avenue on Thursday. Toledo Police responded to the scene after being alerted by Shotspotter and no suspects have been arrested at this time. (WTOL)
  3. Three juvenile suspects allegedly shot at a store in the 3400 block of Elm Street they were attempting to rob on Thursday. According to an employee, the juveniles ran when confronted for the theft and shot at the building as they drove away, striking the store and an unoccupied parked car. (13abc Action News)
  4. The Lucas County Board of Commissioners have announced 10 grants worth up to $10,000 to be awarded to local groups supporting criminal justice reform. The grants are made possible through the MacArthur Foundation Safety + Justice Challenge and target racial equity in the justice system and reducing inmate populations. (WNWO NBC 24)
  5. 30 propane tanks were stolen from the E-Z Mart in the 1200 block of E. Broadway in East Toledo early Thursday morning. The tanks are worth approximately $1,600 and no suspects have been identified. (13abc Action News)

  • Toledo Public Schools has announced a lecture series focusing on local historians and authors. The first presentation will be on January 13, 2022 at Scott High School and is called History of TPS - The Untold Stories and Rare Early Artifacts. (Press Release Desk)
  • Though there has been an increase in threats made at Toledo Public Schools, Superintendent Romulus Durant has stated students report measures such as metal detectors would actually make them feel less safe. Instead, TPS will focus on proactive measures including campus officers, K-9 searches, and mobile metal detectors. (13abc Action News)
  • The University Of Toledo has placed 12 women's soccer team members on the Academic All-MAC team. The honor is reserved for student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. (Press Release Desk)
  • The WTOL 11 Gift of Joy Downtown Toy Drop kicked off Thursday at the media station's parking lot where hundreds of people came by to leave gifts for our community's children. Working with Lucas County Children Services, the event will help families have a wonderful holiday season. Donations are ongoing and there are several drop off sites throughout the city and surrounding areas. (WTOL)
  • New website strollshopdine.com will help you buy local this holiday season. Featuring several businesses from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, the site was started by two individuals with a desire to support hometown vendors. (13abc Action News)
