🌱 2 Arrested During Protest + Tax Levy + Fire Dept. Contracts

Here's a five-minute guide to what's happening in town today.

Welcome back, Toledo! Let's get you started this Wednesday with everything you need to know going on today in town.


First, today's weather:

Here are the top stories today in Toledo:

  1. A levy for funding Downtown Toledo's Imagination Station is on the ballot next Tuesday. The science center has a number of new features, including a privately-funded theater that debuted in 2020. The proposed levy funds about 30% of Imagination Station, including costs of exhibits and shows. (13abc Action News)
  2. The Robert Craig Memorial Bridge was closed on Monday due to an electrical issue. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) reported the "lightning arrester," which protects the bridge from a lightning strike, was in need of repair after the bridge's electrical system malfunctioned. (WTOL)
  3. 37-year-old Peter Moll of Sylvania and 18-year-old Ryan Sullivan of Perrysburg were arrested after Moll accidentally discharged his semi-automatic rifle while the two men were protesting outside the Safety Services building in Downtown Toledo. After the gun went off, Sullivan was found carrying a concealed weapon and was subsequently charged. (13abc Action News)
  4. Toledo Fire & Rescue are negotiating new contracts and awaiting approval from the Toledo City Council. Toledo Firefighters Local 92 has advocated for a 4% raise every year for the next 3 years, as well as lump-sum payments for those who worked during the COVID-19 pandemic last year. (WTOL)
  5. An important football game for the MAC (Mid-American Conference) between the University of Toledo Rockets and the Eastern Michigan Eagles will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Tuesday, November 2. A win for the Eagles will make them bowl-game eligible, but they haven't been able to beat the UT Rockets at home in more than 20 years. (EMU Eagles)

  • Despite supply chain woes throughout the country, the Port of Toledo has done very well during its 2021 season. The Port of Toledo is the largest port on the Great Lakes and boasts a diverse portfolio, including grain, iron ore, coal, aluminum, and salt. (13abc Action News)
  • Toledo School for the Arts has begun accepting applications for its yearly enrollment lottery. Applications can be filled out online and the lottery will occur February 25, 2022. (toledo.com)
  • Several social services agencies, including the YWCA of Northwest Ohio and the Area Office on Aging, will be present at a Resource Fair to be held at the Greenbelt Place Apartments on Saturday from 11 AM - 2 PM. Free lunch will be provided in addition to COVID vaccines, flu shots, prize giveaways, and music from MIX 95.7. (WTOL)
  • The City of Toledo will begin its leaf collection service on Monday, November 1. Instructions for leaf pickup can be found by clicking the link. (13abc Action News)
