🌱Two Senate Candidates Visit Toledo + Drug Dealer Escapes TPD Chase

Hey, Toledo. I'm here in your inbox this morning to get you up to speed on everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Because community news matters! Today you'll find news about:

  • Toledo Police Officer strikes an unrelated vehicle during a car chase with a suspected drug dealer.
  • Ohio Senatorial candidate Tim Ryan visited BP-Husky Toledo Refinery workers after last month's tragic fire while Candidate JD Vance campaigned in Perrysburg with Donald Trump Jr.
  • The League of Women Voters of Toledo-Lucas County will honor Olive A. Colton, who helped found the group in 1921.

  1. A Toledo Police Officer struck an uninvolved driver at the I-475 Secor exit during a chase of a suspected drug dealer. The pursuit was instigated by a Lucas County Sheriff's Deputy but was abandoned with the suspect getting away Wednesday morning. (WTVG)
  2. Ohio Senatorial candidate Tim Ryan visited with union workers after the BP-Husky Toledo Refinery fire last month on Wednesday. Candidate JD Vance campaigned with Donald Trump Jr. in Perrysburg the same day. Both are vying for the Ohio senate seat as Sen. Rob Portman is retiring. (WNWO NBC 24)
  3. The League of Women Voters of Toledo-Lucas County will honor Olive A. Colton, who helped found the group in 1921. A ceremony will be held October 8 featuring Toledo Mayor Kapszukiewicz, National League of Women Voters President Dr. Deborah Turner and other civic group members. (Toledo City Paper)
  4. James Hairston pleaded not guilty Wednesday for the murder of Annise Purifie in a drive-by shooting in July after evading police for three months. Suspect Jerome Hornbeak is also facing murder charges after being arrested the same day of the shooting.(WTVG)
  5. Several travelers from Toledo are preparing for the lack of resources they face as they head to Florida in the wake up Hurricane Ian. Flights from the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport were scheduled Wednesday as the death toll rose. (WTOL)

  • Toledo City Council members and community advocates will hold a press conference Thursday to encourage the release of Emergency Rental Assistance 2 funds at One Government Center at 3 PM in Downtown Toledo. (WTVG)
  • 11 year old Riverside Elementary student Tre'shawn Pittard is using local resources like the LaGrange Branch Library to start his own lawn mowing and snow removal business. (WTOL)
  • The One Village Council is expressing concerns about shopper safety at Manhattan Plaza and invited TPD Chief George Kral and plaza owner Mr. Masoud Yono to a community meeting Tuesday.(WTVG)
