Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. Chicha Harris, Ronald Richardson Jr., and David Evans were indicted Wednesday for the murder of Gerald Dennis Mayes II, 27, in January. Mayes was found shot in his car around 8 p.m. January 16 near the Oak Hill apartments in Springfield Township. (WTOL)
  2. Two women tragically died in what investigators are calling a preventable fire in a North Toledo apartment complex around 3:29 a.m. Wednesday. The Toledo Fire & Rescue Department offers free smoke alarms at stations across the city. (WTOL)
  3. This weekend, Lucas County Canine Care & Control is teaming up with Best Friends Animal Society to cover adoption fees for the more than 80 dogs and puppies looking for a home. (WTVG)
  4. Toledo Police report having confiscated 1,064 guns this year, up from last year's 919 at this point. Lt. Paul Davis credits the program's success as having help from the community. (WTVG)
  5. The Toledo Museum of Art recently acquired 27 pieces that span from 4th century B.C. and onward and were created by African American, Indigenous, women and other underrepresented artists. (La Prensa)

  • The family of 18-year-old Gabbey Segura, who suffers from a rare form of muscular dystrophy, are hosting a golf fundraiser at the South Toledo Golf Club to help get Gabbey a service dog before she begins classes at Ohio State. (WTOL)
  • The You Speak Now program is hosting a talent showcase at the West Toledo Library July 27 from 5-6 p.m. The program helps local youth find confidence in public speaking. (WTVG)
