Today's riddle: What is the longest word in the dictionary? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority Awards $34 million for Maumee River Dredging Restoration Project (dredgewire.com) — Toledo's waterfront is set for a major cleanup after the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority secured more than $34 million to dredge contaminated sediment from a key stretch of the Maumee River near downtown. Work starting next spring aims to protect drinking water, boost recreation, and improve habitat for fish and other wildlife along the Front Street industrial corridor.
2. Toledo police seek suspect in arson at central Toledo business (wtol.com) — Toledo police are asking for your help identifying a suspect in an alleged arson that damaged This Is It Drinks & BBQ on North Detroit Avenue last month. Fire crews quickly contained the blaze, no one was hurt, and the business temporarily closed for repairs, but investigators still want tips through Crime Stoppers to move the case forward.
3. Leasing begins for office and retail space in Toledo's historic Spitzer Building (wtol.com) — Downtown Toledo's historic Spitzer Building is officially leasing office and retail space as part of a major redevelopment that will add more than 160 apartments and new amenities by 2027. The Lucas County Land Bank and Toledo-based partners aim to revive the Four Corners District with restaurants, shops, and shared community spaces in the long-vacant landmark.
4. Lucas County Flock data searches likely tied to national database option, Texas sheriff's office says (13abc.com) — Lucas County's Flock license plate reader system is under scrutiny after Commissioner Pete Gerken called for an immediate pause and audit when outside agencies ran over 900,000 searches of local data in a month, many from Texas. Officials there suggest a national Flock database option may explain the spike, but why Texas agencies are querying Lucas County plate data remains unclear.
5. Fire breaks out at former Mount Vernon Elementary in Toledo (13abc.com) — Firefighters rushed to the former Mount Vernon Elementary School in Toledo on Friday evening after neighbors reported flames and smoke from the roof of the old Toledo Public Schools building on North Byrne Road.
