📰 News we're reading

1. Case No. CI2026-02457 (toledolegalnews.com) — A Lucas County court case is moving forward to foreclose on a home at 3819 Elmhurst Road in Toledo after the owner allegedly defaulted on a mortgage. Anyone with an interest in the property must respond in court by October 5, 2026, or risk losing their claim to the Elmhurst Road real estate.

2. Toxic Jimson weed adds a new twist to Toledo's lawn troubles (wtol.com) — Neighbors along Paisley Road in Toledo discovered toxic Jimson weed growing where city construction disturbed lawns and say they removed more than 100 plants themselves over pet-safety concerns. The City of Toledo has confirmed Jimson weed at several sites and is sending crews, while also reevaluating how restoration work and materials might be fueling weed problems. With the 2026 sidewalk program set to touch 1,500 properties, more homeowners could be affected.

3. Toledo looks to recoup nearly $900,000 from cutting overgrown grass and weeds (13abc.com) — Toledo is moving to bill nearly 2,800 property owners between $100 and $800 each after city crews spent almost $900,000 mowing overgrown lots that violated the 8-inch grass and weed limit. Council could vote on the ordinance as soon as Sept. 8, and any charges will appear on 2027 property tax bills. Neighbors are urged to report nuisance yards to Engage Toledo.

4. Abandoned Oakwood Ave property addressed by city officials (wtol.com) — Neighbors on Oakwood Avenue in Toledo may finally see movement on a long-problematic, boarded-up house as the Lucas County treasurer reviews it for tax foreclosure. The city has cited repeated code violations, and officials are now working to notify any heirs while considering policy changes for properties after an owner's death.

5. Toledo homesteading: When to harvest your garden — and when it's too late (13abc.com) — If you're tending a Toledo garden, this guide breaks down when to pick tomatoes, cucumbers, and basil so they're tasty, safe, and not past their prime. A local extension educator explains how to spot overripe produce and keep plants productive. Plus, the Toledo Homesteaders Network is hosting a Sept. 15 workshop on home budget basics at Your Community Garden on Nebraska Avenue.

  • I had to share.
Casper loves to play in empty cases of water plastic. I had moved it and put it on top of the cat tower so I can sweep and mop and he decides to… (Nextdoor Point Place East)
  • When you freeze corn on the cob, do you blanch first or un-blanch before you freeze?
It can be done both ways, just curious what you all think! I will be taking it off the cob! (Nextdoor Glendale-Heatherdowns West)
