📰 News we're reading

1. Art To Heart: 'Origin Point': Hannah Bowlus' Geometric Glass Art at the Toledo Museum of Art (toledocitypaper.com) — Toledo art lovers can explore Hannah Bowlus' Origin Point exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art's Glass Pavilion now through December 27, with evening hours on Fridays and Saturdays. The show highlights her geometric glass and mixed-media pieces, including the massive LED-lit Pixel Wall, blending playful design with meticulous craftsmanship just a short trip from anywhere in town.

2. Curtain Call: Michael Murray New Executive Director of Toledo's Historic Valentine Theatre (toledocitypaper.com) — Toledo native Michael Murray has taken over as executive director of the historic Valentine Theatre and wants far more local residents to experience its performances and architecture. He plans to modernize operations, expand community partnerships, and keep sharing the venue with nonprofits and civic events so the theater remains a vibrant downtown hub for decades.

3. Toledo eyes landmark designations for more than 100 buildings (toledoblade.com) — Toledo City Council is weighing landmark status for nearly 150 buildings, including Tony Packo's original East Toledo site, multiple churches, schools, and libraries, which would restrict exterior changes without city approval. While the move could unlock major tax credits for projects like Webster Elementary's senior housing conversion, some owners, including the Diocese of Toledo, argue the city is overreaching.

4. 'I thought it was a tornado': Residents begin cleanup after storms swept through Toledo (wtol.com) — Toledo residents are spending Friday and Saturday clearing downed trees and debris after powerful storms swept through neighborhoods from Reynolds and Airport to east Toledo. The city has logged nearly 100 damage reports and is coordinating with Toledo Edison, prioritizing blocked roads, then damage to homes and vehicles, and finally obstructed sidewalks.

5. Toledo dad says learning center won't refund tuition after class location change (13abc.com) — A Toledo father says a private learning center on Secor Road moved planned classes into a Point Place basement and refused to refund his son's tuition, prompting a police report and small-claims lawsuit. His child ultimately enrolled in Toledo Public Schools two weeks late, raising concerns for local parents about transparency, refunds, and where alternative education programs actually operate.
