(toledoreporter.com) — Asian students at the University of Toledo, Lucas County's only public four-year school reporting these figures, posted a 70.3% six-year bachelor's completion rate for the 2018 cohort, slightly below Ohio's statewide rate. The data highlight both steady overall completion and ongoing racial gaps, offering Toledo families insight into how local outcomes compare with broader state and national trends.
2. Former attorney convicted of attempted murder after trying to shoot ex-wife in restaurant (azfamily.com) — A Lucas County jury in Toledo convicted former attorney Matthew Exton of attempted murder and felonious assault after he tried to shoot his ex-wife inside a crowded Toledo restaurant in April 2025. The gun misfired because the safety was on, and patrons and staff tackled him; prosecutors praised them as heroes as Exton awaits sentencing on September 21.
3. Person shot in south Toledo; no suspect in custody (wtol.com) — A person was shot Sunday morning in south Toledo near Broadway and Clayton, and police say no suspect has been identified yet. The intersection briefly closed while crews responded, and the victim's condition and identity remain unknown. Anyone in Toledo with information can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously and may be eligible for a reward.
4. Toledo man accused of fatally shooting, stabbing 77-year-old (13abc.com) — Toledo police say a 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder and felonious assault after a 77-year-old man was found shot and stabbed at a home on Glenwood Avenue near Central and Detroit. Officers responded Sunday afternoon for a safety check and discovered the victim, who later died from his injuries. Investigators have not released a possible motive and are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
5. Vintage and newer vinyl still draw crowds to record shows (toledoblade.com) — Franklin Park Mall hosted its first Record Riots show in Toledo, drawing local collectors and curious newcomers hunting for classic rock, funk, and newer vinyl. Attendees from Toledo and nearby towns said they loved the nostalgic sound, clean selection, and chance to talk music history with veteran vendors who've been selling records for decades.
