Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Jerome Hornbeak, 32, has been arrested for murdering 24-year-old Annise Purifie Tuesday morning at the intersection of Central Avenue and Jeep Parkway. Toledo Police were called to the scene at 6:31 a.m. and found Annise Purifie shot six times in a vehicle that belonged to Hornbeak. (WTOL)
  2. Isaiah Fuller, 45, has been arrested for the May 11 shooting death of Gerrard Jackson, 40, in the 1300 block of Fitchland Avenue near Smead and North Detroit Avenue. A warrant was issued for Fuller on July 1 and he was arrested July 5. (WTVG)
  3. The Toledo Country Club has sued the City of Toledo over plans for a bike trail along the Anthony Wayne Trail that will reportedly affect their property and pose a risk to the public. The groups are due in court on July 28. (WTVG)
  4. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation Unit will begin monitoring the roads using an airplane with GPS capabilities. Officer pilots will be able to more safely pursue reckless and impaired drivers and provide safer roads during chases. (WTOL)
  5. Toledo Public Schools are joining a lawsuit to address government funding of voucher programs for private schools. The "Vouchers Hurt Ohio" lawsuit will address defunding public schools in favor of private institutions. (WNWO NBC 24)

  • Sylvania woman Patricia Stichler's 1985 murder has been solved thanks to the diligence of the Sylvania Police and advances in genetic technology. Then 17-year-old Michael Mellus has been identified as the killer, who died in a car accident in 1989. (WTOL)
  • Celebrate Christmas in July at the Toledo Zoo July 22 to 24, including a special 'Lights WAY Before Christmas' and glow-in-the-dark mini golf. (WTVG)
  • A spokesperson for ProMedica announced a series of non-clinical layoffs due to financial struggles. Officials say the layoffs represent less than 1% of total staff. (WTVG)
  • The Early Vote Center is now open for Lucas County. The newly renovated facility is ready for the August 2 primary election. (WNWO NBC 24)
