First, today's weather:

A stray t-storm; hot, humid. High: 98 Low: 77.

Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Jason Black, 42, pleaded guilty to attempt to commit felonious assault and having weapons under disability for shooting his girlfriend Sherrie Cox, 53, on March 31. Toledo Police found Cox suffering from a gunshot wound in her shoulder at a home in the 500 block of Maumee Ave. and arrested Black soon after. (WTVG)
  2. Ohio House Representatives Mike Loychik and Jean Schmidt introduced HB 616, similar to Florida's controversial "don't say gay" bill, on April 4. The move has come under fire by the Ohio Education Association, who say the focus should instead be on critical thinking and self-empowerment. (Toledo City Paper)
  3. Bowling Green State University basketball player Ubong Etim was injured in a Saturday morning shooting while traveling on southbound I-75. Toledo Police are currently investigating and report the shooting came from a separate vehicle traveling on the interstate. (WTOL)
  4. Referee John Sculli was officiating a Toledo Glass City professional basketball team game when he collapsed to the floor with no pulse Saturday night. Toledo player Myles Copeland, who is also a Toledo firefighter, administered CPR and compressions and saved Sculli's life. (WTOL)
  5. The Toledo Fire and Rescue Dept. are investigating after a house fire in the 3800 block of Pitt Street was deemed suspicious on Tuesday. Officials say there were no injuries in the fire, which started in a bedroom in the top floor. (WTVG)
