Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:
- Dajuan Smith has been convicted of attempt to commit murder and tampering with evidence for shooting his girlfriend at the Quality Inn on Alexis Road in March. Smith is scheduled to be sentenced on September 7. (WTVG)
- Perrysburg first responders pulled the body of an 88-year-old man from the Maumee River Monday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. The man's identity has not been released but there were no signs of injuries or foul play. (WTOL)
- The German American Festival is hosting a community potato peeling at 8 a.m. on August 25 for the event's traditional potato salad. The GAF runs from August 26-28 at Oak Shade Grove on 3624 Seaman Road. (WTVG)
- Three 19-year-old men from Toledo were arrested for sex trafficking in Columbus' Northeast Side on Friday thanks to a targeted effort by multiple agencies and the Ohio Attorney General's Office. The three were charged with first-degree felonies in the Franklin County Municipal Court. (The Columbus Dispatch)
- Jelani Maliik, 20, also known as the musician Knightheart, is hosting a benefit concert for the Beach House Family Shelter on August 27. Maliik's company MVNIFVST (pronounced 'Manifest') will host the show at the Ottawa Tavern in Downtown Toledo and features several local artists. (Toledo City Paper)
