Here are the top stories today in Toledo:
- Homicides are down in Toledo this year, with 39 cases so far. As of the same time in 2021 the rate was at 46 but since then the City of Toledo implemented its violence interrupters program with plans to expand into the Lagrange corridor and East Toledo. (WTOL)
- Roughly 25,000 Toldoans could see their medical debt reduced if the Toledo City Council votes to partner with nonprofit group RIP Medical Debt to use funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. If passed, the decision could reduce up to $200 million in medical debt. (WTVG)
- Toledo Fire & Rescue responded to a house fire that started in a bedroom of a single family home on Daleford Monday afternoon in South Toledo. The fire is under investigation but is believed to have been accidentally started by an overloaded electrical outlet. (WTVG)
- 20-year-old Ricardo Oviedo III of Perrysburg was arrested on assault charges and booked in the Wood County Jail after allegedly choking a man in Bowling Green last Friday. The victim alerted a Bowling Green Police Officer after the attack and Oviedo was discovered to have pending warrants from the Wood County Sheriff's Office and Perrysburg Police Department. - 10 grants aimed at improving the criminal justice system have been awarded to several local groups by the Lucas County Commissioners thanks to funding from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The MacArthur Foundation Safety + Justice Challenge takes on the racial and ethnic disparities found in the criminal justice system with a goal of reducing the local jail population. (WNWO)

- Several Sylvania residents have offered their lawns as alternative parking for the Dana Open golf tournament as the Highland Meadows Golf Course finds parking to be limited for the popular event. (WNWO)
