Here are the top stories today in Toledo:
- A 70-year-old Toledoan has died after a hit-and-run accident at Dorr St. and City Park. Toledo Police are investigating, and anyone with knowledge is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers. (WTOL)
- Northwood man Joshua Easter II has died following a motorcycle crash on southbound I-75 near Bancroft street. It is reported Easter, who was not wearing a helmet, was weaving in and out of traffic when he struck a concrete median. (13abc Action News)
- A neighborhood at the 1900 block of Mansfield Road has been the site of several drive-by shootings. Neighbors worry that children will become the victims of Toledo's already high homicide rate for the year. (13abc Action News)
- The Toledo Police community service officer program has been in effect since 2018, but Chief George Kral states it is now more important than ever. The program currently sees 8 officers assigned to districts throughout the city forming relationships to help link the community and police. (WTOL)
- A man is in critical condition following a shooting that occurred Sunday night. Richard Hill was found near the intersection of Hoag and Campbell streets, where it is reported he was shot following some kind of altercation. Toledo Police have made no arrests and have no suspect. - Doctors urging people to do their part to keep COVID cases down in Lucas County (WTOL)
- The Toledo Lucas County Health Department is hosting several events to promote vaccinations ahead of the coming school year. The department will host a vaccination site every Sunday in August, and participants 12 and up will receive a gift card of up to $100. Masks, backpacks, hand sanitizer, and lunch bags will also be provided. (13abc Action News)
- Maumee's new water and sewer rates are now in effect as of Sunday. The rates see a 64% rise to offset costs related to EPA maintenance and the replacement of the city's sewer system. (WNWO NBC 24)
- Toledo businessman Rashawn McDonald Sr. has started the "Building Businesses" movement in an effort to empower budding commercial enterprises in the city. The group aims to assist entrepreneurs with knowledge and is geared toward promoting diversity. (WTOL)
