🌱 Fatal Single-Car Bancroft Crash + Urban Farming Expansion in Toledo

Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. One man dead is dead after crashing into two parked cars on Bancroft Street near Ashland Avenue. The driver was reportedly traveling around 90 mph before the crash. (WTOL)
  2. One man has been hospitalized after shots were fired at the Norwich Apartments behind San Marcos on Reynolds Road. Nearly two dozen shell casings were recovered and no arrests were made. (WTOL)
  3. The Lucas County Jail has received Innovator Status for the Stepping Up: A National Initiative Reducing Overincarceration of People with Mental Illnesses program. County Commissioners Gary Byers says up to 25% of the jail population has been diagnosed with serious mental health concerns. (WNWO NBC 24)
  4. Toledo man Thomas Jackson is looking to increase urban farming efforts in the city. Jackson hopes to produce an output of 15,000 to 20,000 pounds of fresh produce. (WTVG)
  5. Jera's Heavenly Sweet is giving back to local brewer Aaron Grizaniuk from Patron Saints Brewery following his cancer diagnosis. Owner Jera Stewart has created a beer brownie that will help raise funds for Grizaniuk's treatment. (WNWO NBC 24)

  • It's "Kitten Season" at the Toledo Humane Society. Spring sees an influx of kittens and pregnant mothers. Pet owners are encouraged to spay and neuter their pets. (WTVG)
  • Maumee has been showing solidarity with Ukraine with a lighted sign at Conant and the Anthony Wayne Trail. Mayor Rich Carr says he had the sign put up "day one." (WTVG)
  • With the recent spike in homicides, Toledo has still seen less violence as compared to this time 2021. Credit in part goes to the violence interrupters through the city's Cure Violence Program. (WTOL)
  • A new tutoring program begins May 16 at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. TutorSmart is a free after-school program to help students grade first through eighth. (WTOL)
