🌱 Heritage South Plaza Homicide + Deadly Monroe County Car Crash

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Toledo.

(Patch Media)

Hello, people of Toledo! It's me again, Brad King, your host of the Toledo Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 41 Low: 27.

Here are the top stories today in Toledo:

  1. 24-year-old Everette White has died after being shot outside the Heritage South Plaza on the 1200 block of Broadway Street in South Toledo Saturday night. White is Toledo's 70th homicide and the city has already surpassed the previous record of 61 set in 2020. Toledoans with any information regarding the incident are encouraged to call Crimestopper. (13abc Action News)
  2. The Toledo Museum of Art reopened its medieval-inspired Cloister with a brighter, broader, and more inclusive view this past weekend after it had been closed since August. The section now features a portrayal of life from as far back as 500 B.C.E., and includes cultural artifacts from all around the world as opposed to focusing on Western Europe. 3. 71-year-old Terence O'Brien has fulfilled his bucket list goal of obtaining a bachelor's degree, which was awarded to him by the University of Toledo at the Saturday graduation ceremony this month. O'Brien originally dropped out of high school but completed his G.E.D. before working and starting a family. He credits his professors, classmates, and his advisor Jackie Thompson as integral to meeting his goal. (WTOL)
  4. Side Cute Metropark in Maumee has undergone some impressive improvements thanks to a collaboration between Metroparks Toledo and the Maumee Rotary Club. The endeavor has cleaned up some of the overgrowth surrounding the park's historic river locks, which allowed boats to safely travel down the Maumee River. A Peace Garden has also been added and can be enjoyed by those seeking stillness and tranquility. (13abc Action News)
  5. A 21-year-old Toledo woman has died following a crash in Monroe County on Friday evening around 6:55 PM. The victim, Taya'Jane Hadley, was wearing her seatbelt after the car she was traveling in driven by Lawrence Prophet IV left the roadway and struck a tree. Prophet had allegedly tried to pass a westbound vehicle but veered back to avoid striking an eastbound vehicle before losing control. A 15-year-old passenger was also injured in the crash. (WTOL)

About me: I have been a lifelong Northwest Ohio native and University of Toledo grad (Go Rockets!). I'm old enough to remember when the Mud Hens were still playing in Maumee. The Glass City has seen some amazing revitalization and I am so excited to share every update with you!
