🌱 Fernwood Fire Claims Boy + TPD Shops With Brightside Academy

Hey, Toledo! Let's get this Saturday started off right. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening today in Toledo.
First, today's weather:

Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:
- Toledo Police responded to two separate shootings Thursday night. 32-year-old James Williams was shot in both feet outside the KT Mart on Airport Highway around 10:20 PM and admitted to the University of Toledo Medical Center. 24-year-old Terryion Jones reported to St. Vincent's Medical Center suffering from a gunshot wound that was potentially related to a Shotspotter report made in the 800 block of Islingtion. - 28-year-old Jeffrey Ott assaulted his grandparents in their home in Bedford Township on December 17 after an argument. Ott allegedly attacked his grandfather and then his grandmother when she attempted to intervene. Both victims were transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital and the 72-year-old grandmother has died from her injuries. (WDIV ClickOnDetroit)
- An 11-year-old boy has died following a house fire early Thursday morning in the 2000 block of Fernwood Avenue near Upton Ave. and Parkside Blvd. Toledo Fire & Rescue arrived on scene to find the house fully engulfed in flames, and six residents managed to escape safely. The cause is currently under investigation. (13abc Action News)
- Christmas Eve marked the second annual Operation Santa's Sleigh at the ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital. Police and fire agencies from all around Northwest Ohio showed up to bring joy to not only the patients but also their families and the hospital staff. (13abc Action News)
- The annual '12 Kids of Christmas' event was held a little differently this year. Pre-pandemic, Toledo Police officers would personally shop with Brightside Academy students for holiday gifts. This year, the officers took wish lists to local Meijer stores. The students, meanwhile, got to enjoy a fun-filled morning at Imagination Station complete with gifts from Santa, breakfast, and even a dance-off with TPD officers. (WTOL)

- Local entrepreneur Gerald "Godi" Riley is opening a brick & mortar store in Downtown Toledo called Mud Made. Featuring bestsellers such as beanies and hoodies, the new shop will be located on 10th Street between Monroe and Jefferson. (13abc Action News)
- A group representing fifteen local businesses traveled across Northwest Ohio by trolley in an event dubbed "Christmas Miracles," gifting Christmas cheer to families in need. The recipients were chosen from a list of nominations and the group traveled all over Northwest Ohio, including Toledo, Bowling Green, Pemberville, and Grand Rapids. (13abc Action News)
- Imagination Station is showing two new movies to excite and inspire. Mountain Adventure: Out of Bounds 3D is the story of Olympian Torah Bright as she travels through the world's largest chain of mountain ranges. Tiny Giants 3D explores the world of small animals and how they survive the elements. (Toledo.com)

- Ohio reached a grim milestone this Thursday after the Ohio Dept. of Health reported 15,989 new COVID-19 infections, the third day in a row of record-breaking cases. These numbers are the highest the state has seen in a single day throughout the entire pandemic. (13abc Action News)
