🌱 Lucas County Safe Haven Baby Box + Perrysburg DORA Expansion

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Toledo.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, everybody! It's me, Brad King, your host of the Toledo Daily — here to impart all the most important things happening locally. Let's do it...

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and nice. High: 74 Low: 57.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Toledo who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Toledo Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top four stories today in Toledo:

  1. Following up on the "Safe Haven" law, Lucas County will install its first Safe Haven Baby Box at the Springfield Township Fire Department. Ohio is one of only six states currently implementing this method of anonymous, safe child surrender. (WTVG)
  2. Toledo Police transported shooting victim Cah'von Graves, 19, to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries hours later. Graves was shot in the 1100 block of Sisson around 3:45 p.m. Thursday. (WTOL)
  3. TPS school board member Chris Varwig has said TPS teachers will not be armed, despite Ohio's bill to allow just that. Otsego High School Principal Kevin O'Shea said he would not speak for all teachers, but discouraged the use of firearms in schools and warned of further teacher shortages. (WTVG)
  4. The expanded DORA (designated outdoor refreshment area) in Perrysburg is in affect both downtown and now at Levis Commons. Several businesses and restaurants are excited for the increased foot traffic. (WTOL)
  5. Beginning Saturday, June 18 the National Museum of the Great Lakes will be hosting three Hard Hat Tours, allowing visitors to explore parts of the Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship, the Museum Tug Ohio and the St. Marys Challenger Pilothouse not generally seen. (Toledo.com)

Today in Toledo:

  • 2022 Old West End Festival (10 a.m.)
  • Toledo Black Artist Coalition Showcase - Kent Branch Library (9 a.m.)
  • ETFC Storybook Festival - Waite (11 a.m.)
  • In My Eyes - Mott Branch Library (noon)
  • Authors! with Phil Stamper - Toledo Public Library - Main Branch (2 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • The Ottawa Park Summer Concert Series has been announced. Several excellent music acts will be performing Saturdays in the newly-renovated Ottawa Park Amphitheater. (La Prensa)
  • The movie schedule for the ProMedica Summer Saturdays at Promenade Park has been announced. In addition to titles like Encanto and Spiderman: No Way Home, the events will feature Imagination Station activities, face painting, music, ziplining, and more. (WNWO NBC 24)

That's it for today. I'll see you soon!
